Insulinomas

Patients with insulinomas classically present with manifestations of hypoglycemia, which typically can cause not only central nervous system dysfunction, but also autonomic symptoms such as sweating, weakness, and nausea. Dietary modification, together with the administration of diazoxide, is usually successful in the initial management of hypoglycemia due to an insulinoma. Isolated insulinomas are generally treated with surgical excision; long term survival following surgery in this patient population exceeds 90%.
