Radiation therapy

External beam radiation therapy is effective in palliation of bone and CNS metastases. The use of radiolabelled somatostatin analogs has recently been reported to result in responses in patients with metastatic carcinoid tumors; the long term efficacy of this approach needs to be evaluated. This approach continues to be evaluated in phase I and phase II trials in the US and Europe.
